DePanne - Seaforth Highlanders Parade
(February 28, 2025)A glorious weekend at DePanne, Belgium with a great turn out of pipers and drummers from the Seaforth Highlanders. The Friday evening saw us visit a number of pubs on a pre arranged basis where we turned up en mass, gathered outside along the street and struck in the pipes and drums and then marched in single file in a cacophony of sound and to the most pleasant surprise of all the patrons quietly enjoying their Friday evening 'chill' - Joking aside, it was met with rapturous applause and grateful thanks, after all, it's those who gave before that have allowed us all to enjoy the fun of today.
Then we played as support and opening rosuing pomp and circumstance to the annual drag queen festival and what a fab evening that was, so much effort put into the gowns and finery and they all looked resplendent in their respective attire.
And so we then joined the large town parade from the coast all around the main high street to the sound of wonderful applause and cheers, following floats and dancing groups and everyone enjoying the party moment.
This was a great weekend for all involved and thankyou to the people of Belgium especially Bruno and others for making us feel so welcome.
Lastly, the biggest learning from the weekend is to always pack in your kilt first, marching the wind swept streets along the coast isn't the best idea in a tartan printed beach towel - but who would have know. :-) Both Craigh and I amrched in red and one was a genuine kilt, the other, cotton towel make believe. Well done Liam for bringing it along, otherwise a sit out for the whole weekend would have been on the cards
